The office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AA) is running a programme for nurturing the next generation of academics this is in line with the strategic plan in which Makerere University aims at being a research-led university. Part of the programme focuses on staff that completed Ph.D. studies in recent times. Under this arrangement, graduates of Ph.D studies are availed opportunity to make public, findings from their doctoral research. The seminar series are an opportunity for the public to access information about the latest findings and developments in the particular presenter's area of expertise.  The following are the conferences in series that have been held so far.

Sixth Phd Seminar Serties

jkawalyaPhdDr. Jane Kawalya, Head, School of Education Library, Makerere University. Dr. Kawalya made a presentation entitled: “The National Library of Uganda: Its Inception, Challenges and Prospects, 1997-2007”.The presentation was the sixth seminar in the series  and was held on Thursday 2nd June, 2011 at the  Conference Hall, Level Four, Senate Building, Makerere University.

Fifth PhD Seminar Series

wamalaThe fifth seminar in the series featured Dr. Mr Wamala, School of Statistics and Applied Economics, Makerere University..Mr Wamala made a presentation entitled: “Completion Time Dynamics of Doctoral Studies at Makerere University: A Hazard Model Evaluation”. The presentation was delivered on  Thursday 2nd June, 2011 at  Conference Hall, Level Four, Senate Building, Makerere University.

Fourth Phd Seminar - Dr. Julius Kikooma

KikoomaThe  fourth seminar in the series where Dr. Julius Kikooma of Makerere University, College of Humanities & Social Sciences made a presentation entitled:  “Doing  Entrepreneurship in Uganda: The Social Construction of Gendered Identities of Male and Female Entrepreneurs.” was held on        Friday 25th March, 2011 at   Makerere University, Senate Building, Conference Hall, Level Four.

3rd Phd Seminar - Dr. Ruth Nalumaga

On Tuesday 30th November, 2010, the thrid PhD Seminar in the series featured Dr. Ruth Nalumaga of Makerere Institute of Social Research made a presentation entitled: “Crossing to the Mainstream: Information challenges and possibilities for female legislators in the Ugandan Parliament”. The seminar was held in the Senate Conference Hall

Second PhD Seminar Series- Dr. Joshua Tugumisirize

The second Seminar held on Wednesday 27th October, 2010 at Makerere University Senate Building, Conference Hall, Level Four had Dr. Joshua Tugumisirize, Department of Psychiatry who madea presentation entitled:  “Depression, Women and Culture:  A comparative study of depression among Malawian and Uganda women”.
