We celebrate Prof. Ehrenberg's contribution to Makerere University's core functions of Research and Innovations and Partnerships and Networking. He was instrumental in advocating for collaboration between Makerere University and Bar-Ilan University. Both Universities had already identified a number of areas for staff and students to collaborate, especially in the Sciences. In the Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] signed between Makerere University and Bar-Ilan University in April 2013, three Colleges of Makerere University including the College of Health Sciences; College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology and the College of Natural Sciences were identified to partner with Bar-llan's Faculties of Exact Sciences; Life Sciences; Medicine; and Engineering. This Memorandum of Understanding [MoU] is ongoing.
Prof. Ehrenberg's vision went deeper. He looked at the collaboration as an opportunity for both universities to competitively bid for projects with the World Bank and other international drivers of change. He was indeed instrumental in advancing the ongoing Agrostudies students exchange programme between Israel and institutions of higher learning in Uganda. Colleagues in the university who were blessed to have interacted and worked closely with Prof. Ehrenberg have described him as warm, enthusiastic, simple, kind and very committed to the promotion of partnership across the entire African continent.
Makerere University will pursue the full implementation of our collaboration with Bar-Ilan University and ensure that it stands tall as one of the inalienable testimonies of Prof. Ehrenberg's selflessness.
Prof. Ehrenberg, will live on in Makerere University.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Prof. John Ddumba-Ssentamu
